Summer will be here before we know it, and it will be time for camps, parties, lake weekends, and more. Before the dog days hit, you can still enjoy the sun at some local events and spots! Here are the best outdoor activities in Nashville and beyond to get you excited about summer.
Travel in Time at the TN Renaissance Festival
There is no better summer people watching than attending the Tennessee Renaissance Festival. This quirky, family friendly event is held every weekend in May out in beautiful Arrington, TN. Play games such as knife throwing, much on a giant turkey leg, watch a jousting tournament, and more. Kids are sure to love this festival!
Meet the Owls at Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary
Tucked away in Brentwood, Owl’s Hill is a nature reserve with some very special feathered residents. The sanctuary is not open to walk-ups; instead you must make an appointment. However they put on a number of outdoor events, such as beer hikes, “music in the meadow,” and outdoor education for children and adults alike. You can even meet their resident owls!
Stargaze at the Dyer Observatory
While technically not an outdoor activity, the Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory’s telescope nights are a unique combination of educational and romantic, making them equally suited for both family outings and dates. The telescope nights always fall on the second Friday of the month.
Relax at a Rooftop Bar & Restaurant
This one is for parents only! Everyone knows Nashville has a gorgeous skyline (once you look past the occasional crane), and the best way to soak up the view is at a rooftop bar. Local favorites like L27 atop the Westin, Rare Bird atop Noelle, and L.A. Jackson in the Gulch offer stunning views, stylish decor, and delicious food and drinks. Enjoy a rooftop bar day or night – both give a different experience!
